Sell Your Used or Surplus Transformers
We buy used and surplus transformers 75 kVA to 100 MVA: pad-mounted, dry-type, oil-filled, and substation units. Fast offers and nationwide freight pickup.

Industrial Electrical Surplus buys used, surplus, and decommissioned transformers from 75 kVA distribution units up to 100 MVA power transformers. Whether you have a single pad-mount pulled from a completed project or an entire substation coming out of service, we make fast offers, arrange all freight and rigging, and pay before pickup.
We purchase transformers in every condition class: new surplus still on the skid, used-energized units with test records, and end-of-life cores where copper content sets the floor price. Because we resell into the repair and rewind market as well as the scrap market, we can pay more than a scrap yard for most working units.

What determines what your transformer is worth?
Five factors drive our offer: kVA rating, primary and secondary voltage, winding material, age and condition, and current market demand. Copper-wound units in the 500–2,500 kVA range with common voltages (12470V or 13200V primary, 480Y/277V secondary) are in the highest demand and command the strongest prices. Units with test reports, clean oil, and intact nameplates are worth measurably more.
How do I sell my transformer to you?
Send us photos of the unit and its nameplate — that is all we need to start. The nameplate tells us kVA, voltages, impedance, and winding material. We respond with an offer, typically within 24 hours. Once you accept, we schedule freight (we handle rigging, crane, and oversize permits when needed) and payment is issued before the unit leaves your site.
- Photos of the unit from two angles plus a clear nameplate photo
- Location and loading access (dock, forklift, or crane required?)
- Any oil test records or maintenance history if available
Do you buy oil-filled transformers with unknown PCB status?
Yes. Units manufactured after 1979 are generally non-PCB, and we coordinate oil sampling where status is unknown. For older units we can arrange testing before transport so everything moves in full compliance with EPA and DOT rules.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Do you buy single transformers or only bulk lots?
- Both. We buy single units starting around 75 kVA as well as complete substations and multi-unit lots from plant closures and utility upgrades.
- Who pays for freight and rigging?
- We do. Our offers are net to you — we arrange and pay for rigging, crane service, and transport from anywhere in the US.
- How fast do I get paid?
- Payment is issued before pickup, typically by wire or company check, once the equipment and nameplate data are verified on site.
- Do you buy non-working or damaged transformers?
- Yes. Damaged and end-of-life units are priced on recoverable copper and core value, which still beats most local scrap options.
